Lyric Theatre

QPAC’s largest and most renowned venue

The Lyric Theatre is QPAC’s largest venue and is ideally suited to opera, ballet and large-scale theatre events including musical theatre.

The stunning 2,000 seat Lyric Theatre faces Melbourne Street and boasts city views from the riverside foyer. Constructed in a traditional horseshoe shape, the auditorium has continental seating (i.e. row entry from side aisles) with stalls and two levels of balconies. The cross aisle at level LM allows excellent access and seating for wheelchairs and patrons with mobility difficulties.

Booster Cushions

A limited number of QPAC booster cushions are available and patrons are encouraged to bring their own soft cushions (not car booster seats) to avoid disappointment.

Eat & Drink

There are three dining options located on the ground level of QPAC, directly below the Lyric Theatre and moments from your theatre seats. The Lyrebird, Cafe and Bistro are all licensed and have a variety of meals to choose from.

The foyer bar and merchandise stand are located on the Stalls level (Level 2 in the lift). The foyer bar also sells light snacks and there are vending machines for chocolates and other items. An additional bar is located on the balcony level (Level 4).

Check with the bar staff during your visit, but it is usually OK to take drinks into the theatre, as long as they are in plastic cups.

The best toilets for the Lyric Theatre are on Level TM. There are additional toilets on Levels M and 4 and downstairs from Door 5 on the river side of the foyer. Wheelchair accessible toilets are on the ground level and Levels LM, 2 and 4. There are baby change facilities in the toilets on Level TM.

Three lifts provide access to the Lyric Theatre foyers from the ground floor. Check your ticket for your door number and go to Level 2 for doors 1-10, or Level 4 for all other doors. Unless you have specifically booked wheelchair accessible seating, it is likely that your visit to QPAC will involve some stairs, so please check at the time of booking or call 136 246 if you have mobility issues.

What should I wear?

It's not necessary to get dressed up to come to QPAC, although if you are coming to an opening night, it is likely that guests will be dressed to attend a special occasion. Usually smart casual dress is perfect. Because all of our theatres are air conditioned, you may want to bring a light wrap or jacket, especially if you are dressed for Brisbane summer weather.
