With sweeping views of the river and city skyline as well as the stage

With a focus on theatre and dance, the QPAC Playhouse is a medium sized venue with sweeping views of the river and city skyline.

Built in 1997, the 850 seat Playhouse is a traditional proscenium theatre that is ideal for theatre and dance. There are two levels – the stalls level and balcony – both providing an excellent view of the stage. Access into each row is via the side aisles.

A limited number of QPAC booster cushions are available and patrons are encouraged to bring their own soft cushions (not car booster seats) to avoid disappointment.

Eat & Drink

The closest dining option for the Playhouse is the Russell Street Wine Bar, located on Level G, directly below the Playhouse stalls foyer. The Russell Street Wine Bar serves tapas and light meals with an award winning wine list before all Playhouse performances. Alternatively, our Cafe is located on the Melbourne Street side of QPAC.

The foyer bar and merchandise stand are located on the Stalls level (Level 2 in the lift). The foyer bar sells antipasto plates and there are vending machines for chocolates and other items. An additional bar is located on the balcony level (Level 3).

Check with the bar staff during your visit, but it is usually OK to take drinks into the theatre, as long as they are in plastic cups.

The Playhouse toilets are on Level 2, just beyond the Box Office. There are additional toilets near the bar on Levels G, 2 and 3. Wheelchair accessible toilets are on Level 2.

Two lifts provide access to the Playhouse foyers from Russell Street. Check your ticket for your door number and go to Level 2 for doors 1-2, or Level 3 for all other doors. Unless you have specifically booked wheelchair accessible seating, it is likely that your visit to QPAC will involve some stairs, so please check at the time of booking or call 136 246 if you have mobility issues.

What should I wear?

It's not necessary to get dressed up to come to QPAC, although if you are coming to an opening night, it is likely that guests will be dressed to attend a special occasion. Usually smart casual dress is perfect. Because all of our theatres are air conditioned, you may want to bring a light wrap or jacket, especially if you are dressed for Brisbane summer weather.
